One of my go-to lunch spots! I've been a regular at their old location in San Gabriel for years. Everything on the menu is a winner, but my top picks are the Furikake Crusted Ahi and the combo of Chicken Teriyaki with Beef Ribs. The restaurant is clean and great for dining in with people. Parking can be tight with a small shared lot, but street parking is available nearby. If you haven't tried it yet, it's definitely worth a visit!
This place has definitely grown on me. I've been trying different dishes and none have disappointed. There are options for everyone and also various sizes depending on your appetite. Today I opted for the combo plate and the portion was good, the only thing I would have asked for is for the meat not to be so cooked. My friend had the chicken salad and it was a good portion. The lady at the register is always friendly and patient taking orders.
Geeze Louis! Not gonna lie, I am glad Shakas is no more! LOL Bachan's has a super duper friendly staff, delicious food for good prices. 10/10 would recommend, only sucky part is no soda fountain. Gotta buy by the can or bottle. Other than that, the interior really gives off a welcoming feel and the hints of a great Hawaiian restaurant.
Family friendly restaurant. I got the large plate because I had to if I were to get the crusted tuna. I liked it but the portion for the protein is a little smaller than what I paid for. They give you a lot of rice and mac salad. The protein quality was about an 8/10, but it was only about like 10 slices. I would come back though, the staff is very friendly :)
Found another gem today. Good Hawaiian food in the Monterey Park area. Nice mom and pop kinda place. Menu had a lot of options. Price was generally affordable. The medium plate that I got was a great deal for less than 10 bucks. The fish was cooked well and was moist. I also like the option of either rice or soba noodles. The dipping sauce complemented the bodied and fish perfectly. Would surely be back when I'm in the area
I have found a new go-to spot for lunch! This place is a hole in the wall. Located in a small plaza shared with 2 other shops. (One is a hair salon). Parking is limited if you get here around lunch time. Tasty and affordable hawaiian food! I have been here 3x and all are take out. I always call in to preorder and pick up (usually 20 min wait). Menu has different types; small, medium or large. Portions are decent. First time I went, I got the large combo plate (chicken teriyaki & beef ribs). The large combo comes with 3 scoops of rice, 2 scoop of macaroni salad and a small side of tsukemono. Price came out to be under $20. It was enough to feed 2 people. Had to save the other half for lunch the next day. I also tried the pepper steak and it was decent. Best was the combo plate. Most review talk about the seared Ahi. I will probably try that next time. This place is so good that I brought my coworkers here to try and they also loved it!
Bachan takeout is our go to place for Hawaii plate lunch. Quite a menu many things in three different sizes small medium and large to fit in appetite. Servings are more than decent and little details to the order are very notable. Their hours are a little funky, so be sure to check carefully to make sure they're open you'll see the difference.
MY FAVORITE PLACE IN MONTEREY PARK! IT HAS TAKEN ALL MY MONEY! Food:10/10 Every plate I've gotten, is honestly delicious. The salmon is cooked perfectly, the Mac salad is not too creamy or dry, the short ribs are not rubber or too salty / sweet. The plates I've boughten are absolutely perfect. lol. There is no other way to say it! Perfect!!! Customer service: 10/10 The sweet lady in the front is just so nice. I told her it was my first time (2 weeks ago) and I told her I was picky, she said "oh you'll be back" I said "okay, we will see! Don't underestimate how picky I am!) we both giggled, and the joke is seriously on me LOL. Here I am, treating myself over and over. Price: 10/10 I am a light eater, so I absolutely love that they have the "mini" plates! It's perfect for someone like myself who hates wasting food, but can still order the good things just in a smaller portion. All around: 11/10 I will continue to spend my hard earned money here, well, for life. Lol! I look forward to seeing my favorite lady in the front saying "Hello, chrystina with a Y!" Haha. If anyone is looking for a great lunch/dinner spot that fits all stomach sizes, budgets, and tastebuds, look no more!
Ordered from Bachan's a couple of times before but forgot to write a review. I had forgotten to bring lunch for work today but I remembered how close they are to my office! Called in around 11:40am and ordered the furikake crusted ahi plate (which I think is arguably the go-to plate) and was given a 35-40 min wait time. I arrived around 12:15 and was immediately greeted by the front cashier/server who had my order ready as soon as I paid. The ahi is unbelievably tender and I love how crispy the batter is, coupled with the umami from the furikake. My favorite sauce to use is their wasabi aioli, but they also include ponzu, soy, and yellow mustard/horseradish dipping sauce for your dipping pleasure. Also included is a side of mac salad and house salad. tips: order thru the phone, otherwise you would have to wait for the huge queue and lunch rush! Also parking is def hit or miss at the small parking lot in this plaza. I was fortunate the last couple of visits but had to park at the side street today.
Huge fan of this place because they have three meal sizes: large, medium and mini. I had the medium fish plate and the BF got the medium combo plate. It was filling for the both of us so that we are comfortable and not leaving with food coma. There's ample parking in the lot that they share with other businesses. They have about ten tables inside so plenty of seating available. They do close a bit earlier so be mindful if you are dining in. I came in on a Friday and they close at 6:30pm. Would I come back? You bet!
